About Us

Helicopter Institute, Inc. (HII) is located at the Fort Worth Meacham Airport (FTW) in Fort Worth, Texas approximately 10minutes by car from the Historic Fort Worth Stockyards. Fort Worth is a small, attractive city in an exciting part of the United States, just a few minutes away from magnificent museums and attractions like the Dallas Cowboys AT&T Stadium, Texas Rangers Globe Life Field, Dallas Mavericks American Airlines Center, Texas Motor Speedway, and much more.

The Fort Worth Meacham Airport is located within sight of the Naval Air Station – Joint Reserve Base (NAS-JRB), home of the F-35 production line. The airport is a large tower-controlled facility managed as Class D airspace. HII is a major user of the airport and is provided with convenient training routes and patterns. The airport is also equipped with a full range of instrument approach facilities. The numerous arrivals and departures of small aircraft enable the student to become comfortable with busy airport traffic without experiencing the delays normally encountered when training is conducted at an airport which has a large volume of airline traffic. For the experience needed to operate within more complex airspace, we have two (2) Class B airports only minutes away.

The busy airspace and many airports around the Fort Worth area provide the perfect training environment for building confidence with radio communication, navigation, and dynamic weather decision making. Additionally, training areas consisting of ruralland are close by where HII aircraft can operate without causing annoyance to residential areas.

Perfect flying weather is not perfect for flight training. A student pilot needs to be exposed to changing conditions and learn how to make the right decisions. North Texas is ideal for this purpose. The region has weather patterns that periodically causeinterruption to flight training. This provides opportunities for pilots to learn the challenges and related weather decision making process pilots deal with on a daily basis on a global scale. When lengthy delays due to fog, or other no-fly weather conditions exist, HII has extensive flight simulation solutions to provide a path to keep your training moving forward. However, the weather often changes quickly. We don’t our student pilots getting too comfortable in the Flight Simulation Lab, so it’s back to the flight line as soon as weather clears.

A major advantage of the North Texas region is the cost of living. Students at HII can keep living costs to a minimum. Accommodation and food costs are among the best values in the United States. Another benefit is our proximity to the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Dallas/Love Field (DAL), both only minutes from our location offering domestic and international travel solutions.

HII devotes all its resources to flight instruction. Each program is tailored to the ability of the student to assimilate new skills and to the student's time schedule. Advanced training courses provide Factory Alternative courses all insurance industry accepted. No previous aviation experience is required to join our ab-initio FAA Approved Part 141 flight school. Our instructors offer top quality training and take an earnest interest in the progress of every student no matter what the course of training selected or the experience of our customer. Often a close bond develops between student and instructor as the atmosphere at Helicopter Institute, Inc. is a pleasant blend of professionalism and informality, a true family environment. Why? Because HII is a family business. You will find that your training is hard work, but thoroughly enjoyable; we will never forget that each student is a valued customer.
